Class Descriptions

Alignment Based Vinyasa

This class focuses on the key alignment point of yoga postures. Alignment based vinyasa is the mindful placement of the body; bringing together the basic positioning of the body with core strength and breath awareness. It is a class that aims to bring attention to the anatomy of the body to protect and stabilize the joints of the yogi. Great for beginners to advanced students who want to perfect the alignment in their practice.

 

All Levels Vinyasa

This is a flow style of yoga. It is about precision amidst movement, and ease amidst flow. This class is suitable for all levels of students!

Vinyasa Yoga detoxifies, and heals. This accessible, flowing form of yoga will lead you to a state of transformation. Here we move steadily from pose to pose in coordination with the breath gradually building deeper internal warmth as we explore a variety of poses.

 

Ashtanga

Vinyasa-flow based on the principles of Ashtanga Yoga. Traditional posture sequences will be linked together in a “flow,” practicing the vinyasa method of one movement per breath. Every class will focus on the foundations of breath, bandha (internal “locks”) and drishti (specific gazing points). Significant core work will be worked in throughout the class. This class is accessible to practitioners of all experience levels with modifications offered as needed. See this symbol on a class, then you’ll be sweating!

 

Beginner Vinyasa

Beginner Vinyasa classes are best suited for those new to any yoga practice. It is a class based on the fundamentals, but it’s still challenging. These classes are a great introduction to yoga for any level student.

 

Beginners Yoga

Beginners Yoga focuses on the fundamentals of yoga. Teaching the asana poses while focusing on proper alignment, modifications and breathing practices. In this way of teaching, when the student feels ready, they can confidently move up and join the other classes we offer here at Yoga Loft.

 

FREE KIRTAN

Join us for a free Kirtan Jam at Yoga Loft Waipio. Kirtan is devotional chanting, used to uplift the soul. If you enjoy sacred music and love chanting you will love Kirtan. Zeny has been a musician since childhood and plays multiple instruments including piano, harm, harmonium, and ukelele. She is a disciple of Russill Paul- one of the world’s leading Mantra Teachers, Recording Artist and author of the bestselling book “The Yoga of Sound.”

 

Gentle Vinyasa

“Easy does it” classes are ideal for anyone; especially beginners who wants a slow-paced class. If you are recovering from an injury, have a chronic condition such as osteoporosis, arthritis, sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome or multiple sclerosis, or are limited in practically any other way, our Gentle Flow, Beginner Yoga or Intro to Yoga classes are for you.

 

Gentle Vinyasa + Yin

Gentle Vinyasa + Yin style yoga class. Get cozy with blocks, blankets, and props. Be guided to a comfortable place to deepen your poses and release tight muscles, stiff joints, and stuck energy in the body.

 

Hatha Yoga

Hatha Yoga aligns breath and movement with basic foundational yoga poses. We use this movement and linking of breath to build heat and detox the body. As we work into our peak poses, we’ll hold them to allow for alignment corrections, and to build stamina of the body and the breath in the pose. This class is great for all levels of students offering variations of the poses to make them accessible to all. The postures of Hatha Yoga are designed to open the many channels of the body—especially the main channel, the spine—so that energy can flow freely. Hatha yoga creates balance into the body and is a powerful tool for self-transformation. It asks us to bring our attention to our breath, which helps us to still the fluctuations of the mind and be more present in the unfolding of each moment.

 

Hour of Power

Hour of Power classes are strong, more challenging, and you should expect to sweat as you strengthen the arms, shoulders, legs, & core. This class also works on your flexibility and gets your heart rate up. Power Vinyasa offers a great workout for your body while allowing your mind to unwind as you connect and flow with your breath. The Power classes are a blend of modern day and traditional yoga. You will be guided through a challenging but safe practice adapted for our “Western bodies” while being inspired by philosophy from the teachings of our gurus! Power yoga is the beginning of a journey into a powerful life! See this symbol on a class, then you’ll be sweating!

 

Mysore Ashtanga

MYSORE: This is a traditional Ashtanga class completed at your own pace. As a self-led practice, students move through the series according to their own ability. Students will receive individual instruction from the instructor. The instructor will provide hands on adjustments and verbal cues as needed. This teaching style is named after Mysore, India, where Ashtanga yoga originated and was taught by Sri K Pattabhi Jois for many years. ALL LEVELS are welcome and students are encouraged to practice at their own pace. See this symbol on a class, then you’ll most likely be sweating before the class is through.

 

Power Vinyasa

Power Vinyasa classes are strong, more challenging, and you should expect to sweat as you strengthen the arms, shoulders, legs, & core. Prenatal Yoga

Prepare your mind, body and spirit for labor and delivery with a class to help expectant mothers deepen their experience and enjoyment of pregnancy. Yoga Class includes yoga postures (asana) to relieve the common discomforts of pregnancy; relaxation techniques and breathing exercises to ease fear and anxiety; abdominal and pelvic floor toning to enhance postnatal recovery. This class is beneficial at any time during pregnancy.

 

Restorative “unwind” Flow

A calm class for all levels. You will leave class feeling grounded, rejuvenated, and nourished.

 

Shakti Flow

Awesome music, high intensity cardio and dance bouts, booty shaking, high impact, sweat drenched, full body workout that will push your limits physically and emotionally while continuously challenging your comfort zone every time no matter where you are on your journey. Universal Yoga

This flowing practice utilizes 2 mats to form an “+” allowing circular movement (mandala). Universal Yoga is a synthesis of traditional Indian and Tibetan Yoga that emphasizes the spiritual and meditative roots of Yoga. Traditional Yoga consists of posture, breath, energy awakening (kriyas and mudras), chanting and meditation. Universal Yoga was Created by Andrey Lappa, a Yogi and Lama who trained for decades with many legends of the Indian yoga world, including B.K.S. Iyengar, T.K.V. Desikachar, Patthabbi Jois and many others. Andrey spends several months each year training in advanced Tantric yoga with Tibetan Buddhist lamas and monastics in Nepal.

Yin & Yang

Yin & Yang Yoga balances the practice of Yin yoga for the first half of the class and Yang yoga for the second half of the class. This class will guide you with a practice that starts with deep, introspective, and quiet yoga that evolves into an energizing and uplifting yoga. Yin yoga opens up deep connective tissue, expanding flexibility, and aiding healing while stimulating the nadis or meridians to loosen energetic blockages and increase energy flow. Yang yoga is the more traditional Hatha or Vinyasa based asana practice that develops muscular strength, stamina, and flexibility. Yin & Yang Yoga is a class that balances both feminine and masculine principles.

 

Yin Yoga

A calm yet challenging class for all levels. Yin postures are done with the muscles relaxed and are held between 3-5 minutes per posture. When we move through the muscle into the connective tissue we can hit the meridians of acupuncture currents allowing for major release, both physically and emotionally. Yin yoga addresses the deeper spiritual dimensions of yoga. You will leave class feeling grounded, rejuvenated, and nourished.

 

Yoga + Zen

This practice, open to all levels, is based in Classical Hatha Yoga with an emphasis on meditation, energetic alignment and traditional breathing techniques (pranayamas). Various meditation practices are introduced including traditional Zen (Rinzai lineage).
