Russell Van Dyken was born and raised in Bozeman, Montana. After spending seven cold winters in North Dakota, he and his wife decided to follow their dream to live in Hawaii and moved to Oahu in May 2014. His journey of yoga started one day in 2009 when he decided to attend a yoga class at the YMCA. The yoga teacher encouraged him to attend at least three classes before forming an opinion about yoga. After the third class he knew he needed more. That was the start of his daily yoga practice. Russell decided to start sharing what he had learned after training with Nadia Toraman- Maui Yoga Shala in 2010. Since then he has attended and completed numerous additional teacher trainings and workshops, as well as a two month internship with his principle teacher Debra Corso.
Russell’s teaching style is heavily influenced by the teaching of Sri K Pattabhi Jois and Lino Miele. His classes are well balanced with a strong emphasis on the foundation of the breath.
